I just want to provide an update to you regarding where we stand with the different recommendations that our committee proposed.
A few weeks back, I debriefed district leadership on the recommendations and several Mellon administrators volunteered to "own" each of the recommendations. Maria Alanis, Director of ESL and Bilingual Education, volunteered to head up the home visit project recommendation. Orlando Thomas, Director of Student Services, volunteered to head up the parent mentor recommendation. Trevor Nadrozny, Director of Curriculum, volunteered to head up the parent workshop recommendation.
In addition, I debriefed all of the principals on the committee's recommendations last week. I believe that the recommendation for a collaborative conversation about communication practices will be on the agenda for an administrator meeting this summer.
Next year, the parent advocacy committee will continue, but the focus will be on supporting our Unit 4 students who become parents. Unfortunately, I will not be able to commit to co-chair this committee next year, but of course I am willing to support the committee's work however I can.
I want to thank you again for your committment to parent advocacy. It is a critical component as we continue to become more responsive to the needs of our students and families.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
